Matisyahu –Jewish Reggae Rapper

April 21, 2008

Matisyahu is the Hebrew and stage name of Matthew Paul Miller, an American Jewish Reggae musician. His music an inspring blend of religion, reggae and rap. So how’s that for a change! He also revived the hit song from the Police entitled "message in th bottle". ‘According to Matisyahu, while he was given a Hebrew name, his parents soon forgot the name and began calling him ‘Matisyahu’ as the Hebraic version of the English name Matthew. They soon discovered that his actual Hebrew name was Feivish Hershel. However, he was advised by his Rabbis to continue using the Hebrew name with which he had grown up.

Fake Nokia Handsets — China Clone

I recently read an article from the Inquirer which actually warns consumers from buying fake handsets sold locally.

I’ve read an article from the Inquirer which actually warns consumers from buying fake handsets sold locally.

Here’s the rest of the article, read it:

MANILA, Philippines — Mobile phone company Nokia Philippines is warning consumers about the proliferation of fake Nokia devices being sold in the local market.

A team from the Asia Pacific region is now coordinating with local enforcement agencies to conduct an investigation on the sale of these fake products, which is likely violating the company’s brand, said Nikka Singson-Abes, corporate communications manager of Nokia Philippines Inc., in an interview.

Singson-Abes said Nokia Philippines has received reports from its Nokia centers that have been receiving fake products from customers wanting to have the units serviced.

“We’re also trying to verify reports about those being sold in popular malls and in the provinces,” she said.

The Nokia Philippines executive said the latest Nokia phone models like Nokia Xpress Music, Nokia N81, Nokia 5310, Nokia N95, Nokia N82, Nokia 6120, were being sold at half or a third of the original price, which is an indicator that the unit might be fake.

“They’re branded Nokia and sometimes even the packaging is made to look like the real thing. I am told the phones are lighter in weight than the original. Some are being brought to the Nokia Care Centers for repair and because they are fake, they are turned down,” she said in an e-mailed advisory.

Asked how serious the problem has turned into, Singson-Abes said this development has already prompted the local office to warn consumers.

Nokia 5310 Xpress

I wanted to buy a new cell phone. So I searched for it on the net of course, since it’s more reliable if you’re seeking for the phone’s specifications. While surfing for new releases of Nokia, my eyes suddenly couldn’t resist not looking at this particular phone. Before it was a Jansport Elefunk bag that I want, but now I’m craving to have this phone, a Nokia 5310 Xpress Music. Although I’m not particularly into “what’s latest” or the “IN” thing, but I definitely follow my own needs and wants. So there it is a new phone for my not-so-luxurious lifestyle. Its actually very convenient cause it’s slim and very handy, not like my Nokia Engage phone, which is quite very bulky.

Please Santa, can I have this phone like a month from now? I know it’s still early to ask for Xmas presents but I really really wanted to have this phone. Can you please make its price lower in the next month so I can afford to buy one? Lol I really wanted to have this Nokia 5310 Express phone.

Do you want to be GOD?

Earlier this morning, I watched Jim Carrey’s movie entitled Bruce Almighty. It was a funny story about an ordinary man, who failed in his reporting career and was endowed by God with the power to become HIM; the Alpha and Omega. Luckily Bruce, played by Jim Carrey, was able to handle the job of being God by doing the most out of his supernatural powers thereby leading to his successful career. But unluckily, he was not able to do his responsibility as God himself. It just struck my mind for a moment, imagining that what if I was God for a day. It would really be great to be God with all the unimaginable powers I would acquire for a day. I could even do things that normal people can’t do. I can even save the world for a single day. That’s not bad, after all I am entitled to a single day, becoming what I wanted dearly. But then there are things I also need to sacrifice, if I’d be God, I should do all his works. Answer a lot of prayers and do things that no man could have ever done, help those who need help, be the superhero, and specially create wonders in the world. It means sacrificing one day for the world. That would be pretty difficult for me, cause in fact I cannot be like God, even if I was given those tremendous powers, and never in my wildest dreams do I want to become Him. He is the MAN and nothing can change Him as the Alpha and the Omega. Well, dreams are for free, maybe I’ll just dream more. I can be like God in my own ways. =)

Google or Googol?

Some of us do not actually know who the founders of Google are, so to enlighten the readers a bit about this fact, I wrote this article. Google was founded by two brilliant and aspiring Stanford University graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin. As graduate students of Computer Science, they collaborated on a research project, named Back Rub, which had the capability of analyzing the back links of a website. This project then became the talk of the campus as it gained popularity because of its approach to link analysis. You must be wondering now why the founders didn’t name it after their current research project, Back Rub. Based from the sources that I have read, Google is actually taken from the misspelling of the word googol, a mathematician’s term that refers to the number represented by the numeric 1 followed by a 100 zeros. Google’s domain name registration records dates from September 15, 1997. Cool eh?! Google, which is now earning billions in the industry, is rapidly growing and becoming the largest entity on the World Wide Web. As of 2007, their annual revenue was estimated at a whooping $16.6 billion dollars. Looking on the other side of the coin, Google just started from mere scratch and look where they are heading now. They are the industry’s top earning conglomerates and its founders, who were just plain smart and idealistic, changed the world by making information available with just a click of a mouse.

Smoking Kills — Smokers Beware

I personally admit that I am a smoker, and I know that my life is at risk because of this vice. More and more people die because of smoking. It is estimated that five million people die annually because of lung cancer due to excessive smoking. And over three-quarters of deaths among smokers worldwide were among men. Even secondhand smokers are at risk.

Nicotine is a massive killer and it’s killing all those who come in contact with it. Am I not afraid of this occurrence? Of course I am, and definitely I am aware that sooner or later I will face the same fate. I wrote this not because I want to advocate for something, nor do I want to quit my vice, but I just want to impart to others how dangerous this vice is for one’s health. Smokers who start smoking at a very young age, will likely be addicted to it. The all say, “once you puff, you can’t stop.” This is indeed very true.

Can you just imagine yourself dying because of smoking-related diseases? If you can’t then better read this, maybe you will be enlightened by this man’s suffering.

I, of course, am not in the position to judge whether a man should quit smoking or not. It is up to him/her to decide if he/she is doing the right choice. So it’s up to you to decide, light it up and you’ll soon face your worst nightmare.

Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301

I just bought my very own second-hand laptop yesterday; its a Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 laptop. It is driven by a fast 2 GHz Pentium 4 processor, with 512 MB of SDRAM (expandable to 1,024 MB), a fast front-side bus speed of 400 MHz, and a 128 MB ATI M6-P graphics chip. It has a 15-inch XGA TFT active-matrix display, a 40 GB hard drive and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW. I got it in an Ebay auction and it costs around Php 16, 000. When I contacted the seller about the price, at first, he disagreed on giving me a discount since he’s going to be the one handling the shipping fee. But then he changed his mind and lowered the price to Php 15, 000, still I insisted on lowering the price further. It’s through my negotiating "abilities" which convinced him to give it to me in a very affordable rate which is, of course, an advantage for both of us. Since he’s going to ship it here in Cagayan and I will pay an interbranch fee for the payment deposit. I bought the stuff for Php 14,500 and indeed it is a very agreeable deal. It’s already being delivered now and I’m waiting for it to arrive. Of course, I’m excited and can’t wait to use my new "but-not-new" laptop.

Smoking Kangaroos

A local OPM punk band in Cagayan de Oro has just launched their new hit single entitled Wasted Time, a song which imparts the importance of time in everyone’s lives. As an independent local band, they hit the rock stage as they played revivals from the 80’s and cover songs from the Good Charlotte and the Mayonnaise.

Started in 2003, Smoking Kangaroos is composed of 5 happy-go-lucky yet talented musicians; Jam Ignilan on drums, Lyle Serrano on lead guitars, Ferdinand Tan on rhythm and back-up vocals, Keith on bass, and Lei Vallecer on lead vocals. The group was formed from an unexpected jamming and drinking session during their collegiate days. And for the past couple of years, they have already performed in a lot of gigs and have even garnered the “Band of the Year Award” from an inter-city battle of the bands competition in the City of Golden Friendship. Right now the group is still making up for lost times in a casual drinking and jamming session together with their closest friends and brother band mates.
